The challenge

From prediction to real-world therapeutic development

Running a protein model is easy — AlphaFold and OpenFold are a download away. Turning computational predictions into something a drug discovery team would trust is hard.

Build an AI tool for a real antibody-engineering challenge and see how far you can take it in just one day.

Who it's for

Biologist, coder, entrepreneur, or none of the above — if you want to help shape modern medicine, you're welcome here.

FAQ

Good questions

Who can participate?

Students, researchers, and professionals interested in biotechnology and entrepreneurship applied to biology. We welcome participants from all backgrounds and disciplines — great ideas happen when different areas of expertise come together.

Do I need to know programming, bioinformatics, or biology?

No! Preparation materials and mentors will help you understand the challenges and contribute meaningfully. You're welcome to use AI and other resources, and we'll encourage teams to combine expertise such as biology and computer science.

Do I need a team? What is the maximum team size?

No. Come with a team or come alone — we'll help you find one, aiming for a mix of skills and backgrounds. Maximum team size is 5 people.

What are the prizes?

Prize money of 3,000 USD for the winning team(s), plus:

  • Experimental validation: winning sequences expressed and tested in vitro by a partner lab, with a full lab report and characterization data
  • Scientific publication: the possibility to publish your results
  • Pitch your project to venture capitalists
  • Have your project featured in partner media
How are projects judged?

A judge runs your skill on a case your team hasn't seen. We use two scientific and two product criteria:

  • Judgment (40%) — its decisions are principled: what it changes, how it scores, when it stops.
  • Execution (20%) — it runs unattended and gets somewhere sensible.
  • User fit (20%) — a specific user, the pain you're mitigating, and how costly that pain is for them.
  • Path to value (20%) — getting from prototype to real use takes investment. Show how you plan to raise it.
What do I need to submit at the end of the hackathon?

A pitch/presentation and a GitHub repository link with the materials created during the hackathon. A working prototype strengthens your submission.

What are the rules on pre-existing work?

All project outputs and repositories must be created during the hackathon. Prior ideas, research or papers may inspire you, but if your project builds on a pre-existing startup or business idea, you must disclose it to the organizers.

Will food be provided? What about dietary needs?

Yes — coffee, light breakfast and lunch. Dinner details will follow closer to the event. Tell us about allergies or dietary requirements in the registration form.

What should I bring?

Your laptop, charger, and personal items for a full day. We provide meals, refreshments, and access to computing resources.

Is accommodation provided?

Unfortunately not. It's a one-day event, so please arrange your own accommodation if needed. We are aware this may limit participation for people traveling from further away, and we're sorry for that.
